LEIRIS Michel. - Lot 221
LEIRIS Michel. PANORAMA DU PANORAMA. AUTOGRAPH MANUSCRIPT SIGNED [1976]. 21 pages in-4 Bradel, sand box spine titled in gold, cloth covers (Leroux). First draft autograph manuscript with numerous erasures and corrections, passages crossed out and additions, dedicated to Georges Limbour's tale Le Panorama. The manuscript is dedicated to Roland Barthes. Georges Limbour was an important member of the Collège de pataphysique, and his collection of poems Soleil bas was illustrated in 1924 by André Masson and published by D.H. Kahnweiler. His novel Les Vanillés (Gallimard) won the Prix Rencontre in 19328, and he is the author of two of the best works devoted to André Masson and Jean Dubuffet. ... Almost ignored in an issue of the Nouvelle Revue Française (n°267, December 1, 1935), a tale by Georges Limbour, Le Panorama, seems particularly characteristic of his style, that difficult-to-label style which made him one of the greatest writers of our time, yet at the same time a little-read author, to which his contempt, not for literature but for the fantasy of letters, probably contributed as much as the uncategorical nature of most of his works... That an intense desire for freedom animates the young heroes of Panorama, and that the informal morality of this tale is that the offence they have committed has enabled them to conquer it, is no doubt due to the fact that for everything that concerns Limbour, freedom is ultimately the key word... Autograph note by Michel Leiris at the end of the manuscript: Published in Critique. Georges Bataille fondateur. In homage to Georges Limbour.
