PÉRET Benjamin. - Lot 256
PÉRET Benjamin.
AUTOGRAPHIC LETTER CARD SIGNED to Robert RIUS. Mexico City, December 21, 1944.
Rare document in which Benjamin Péret asks Rius about some of his friends in the Femmes en guerre surrealist group, and gives news of several exiles.
At the time, Péret did not know that Rius had been shot by the Nazis on July 21, 1944 in the Arbonne forest. It was Noël Arnaud, who was living in Rius's apartment at the time, who received this letter-card.
How are you? As well as can be expected, I hope. What's going on? How are your friends? Oscar [Dominguez], Victor [Brauner], Acker? Manuel? Tell some of them to write to me. And Chabrun? André [Breton], Tanguy, Matta, Max [Ernst], Duchamp are here in New York. Frances is here, but he's gone half-mad. He thinks he's some kind of genius and he's pissing everybody off. Paalen is separated from the group and publishes a Dyn magazine. André also publishes a magazine in New York, VVV.
