PIEYRE DE MANDIARGUES André.
AUTOGRAPHIC LETTER SIGNED to Dr. FERDIÈRE. Venice 3 2 1959. One page in-4 on blue paper.
Letter hostile to the electroshock sessions Artaud underwent at Dr. Ferdière's clinic: I can even tell you that Dr. Lacan, one day when we were talking about Antonin Artaud and his illness, spoke very highly of you, and you may have noticed that I never took part in the invective that was once hurled at you in Left Bank intellectual circles. But I must confess that if I hate anything, it's the man-to-man formula.
All the same, I've always shunned men's clubs and billiard halls, which are reserved for men only (curious thing, billiard halls with their symbol of balls and cues are forbidden to women in most countries! I have neither the desire, nor the leisure, nor the opportunity to discuss with you the subject of electroshock therapy, nor that of the decline I attribute to the brutal treatment he received early in his illness. Of all the people I know who have undergone electroshock treatment, there is not one who does not look like a ruin...
Attached is a 4-page in-4 typescript: A propos d'Antonin Artaud. Testimony by Frédéric Delanglade.
