Beautiful chest of drawers in violet wood veneer. The curved - Lot 253
Beautiful chest of drawers in violet wood veneer. The curved legs are an extension of the strongly arched uprights, with chased and gilded bronze sabots, astragals and falls. The front opens to reveal three long drawers with crossbars adorned with dark copper fluting. Gilt bronze drawer handles, key escutcheons and apron. Belgian red marble top. Circa 1730/1740. H. 89 cm - W. 136 cm - D. 67 cm This commode tombeau can be attributed to cabinetmaker François Mondon, whose year of mastery we do not know, but can be dated to the 1730's. Mondon is known for his dark veneers of rosewood or violet wood, and his designs can often be associated with Pierre Migeon, as Mondon delivered many pieces of furniture to him.
