Two funeral orations were delivered here, one by Benedetto Varchi (1502-1565), the other by Leonardo Salviati, the twenty-two-year-old who was to deliver Benedetto Varchi's funeral oration a year later. Most public libraries in Europe and the USA hold a copy of Michelangelo's funeral oration by Benedetto Varchi. But only one copy, bound in modern vellum, has been offered for auction on the international market for over thirty years.
