Two vignettes of musical instruments, numerous ornate initials, culs-de-lampe signed HT and PC, three wood-engraved bands repeated with some alternations. folio (415 x 275mm) COLLATION: a2 e6 A-Z6 2-3A-Z6 4A-G6 4H4 4I-M6 (last leaf blank). 922 pages incorrectly numbered 921, as always: pp. 601-602, 757-758 are duplicated and the pagination changes from 832 to 835 with no gaps. ILLUSTRATION: a title-frontispiece engraved by Jaspar (or Gaspar) Isaac, and 68 plates engraved partly after Antoine Caron (10 signed; five preparatory drawings were published in 1962 in the Gazette des Beaux-Arts) or after two anonymous Flemish artists, by his sons-in-law Léonard Gaultier, Thomas de Leu, and Jaspar or Gaspar Isaac for 20 plates, all printed full-page. CONTEMPORARY BINDING. Red morocco, gilded decoration, arms in the center of the boards, framed in the Du Seuil style, highly ornate ribbed spine, gilded edges. PROVENANCE : Louis-Urbain Le Fèvre de Caumartin, marquis de Saint-Ange (1652-1720; arms) -- armorial bookplate with the mention liber libro -- Henri Monod (gilded figure in the corner of the decoration) A few rare browned leaves and light wetness. Restorations to covers and corners.
