Engraved vignettes, lettering and decorative plates. ILLUSTRATION: 9 (of 10) engraved frontispieces by F. M. Francia, Giovanni Battista Sintes and Arnoldus van Westerhout, an intaglio engraved hors texte portrait by Paolo Pedrusi (vol. VIII) and 261 (of 266) intaglio engraved folding plates depicting medals. CONTEMPORARY BINDINGS. Marbled calf, framed with gilt fillets, ornate spines with arms, edges speckled with red. PROVENANCE : Bourbon-Siciles family (pieces of arms stamped on the spines of the volumes) -- Louis-Philippe, King of the French (1773-1850; red stamp of "Duc d'Orléans", the appellation he bore from 1793, and stamp of the library of the Château de Neuilly, which he acquired in 1818; Paris, 1852, I, lot 2895: "10 vol. in-fol. fig. v[eau] m[arbré]", 20 francs) -- unidentified "E.D." stamp at the head of each volume. Heavy spotting. Volume II lacks two plates; volume III lacks two plates; volume VIII lacks frontispiece, title, introductory leaves and one plate; volume IX lacks pp. 243-252, i.e. 5 ff.
