Dom Michel Félibien (1655-1719), son of André Félibien, was a Benedictine monk of the Congrégation de Saint-Maur. His treatise is renowned for the accuracy of its data, based on original documents (reproduced over 220 pages). It begins with the history of the abbey itself, placing each fact in its historical context, followed by a description of the monument itself, with details of the inscriptions in the various chapels. The wealth of the abbey's treasury occupies an important place in the work, and it is only thanks to it that much is known today. The author describes, piece by piece, each of the reliquaries, crosses, crowns, bindings and shawls that were kept in the treasury, with details of inscriptions and even coats of arms.
