Copenhagen, Johannes Lauerentzen, [1710] CATALOGUE OF THE COLLECTION OF THE KINGS OF DENMARK WITH THE CHIFFRE OF FRÉDÉRIC IV Second edition In-folio (360 x 230 mm). Title in red and black with engraved vignette. Thirteen initials, twenty-six engraved headbands and tailpieces. COLLATION: 268 unnumbered ff. ILLUSTRATION: 1 copper-engraved frontispiece, 55 copper-engraved plates, including two on double-page. This edition has fifty-five engravings, whereas the original of 1696 had only thirty-seven. CONTEMPORARY BINDING. Brown calf, central cold-stamped decoration, gilded decoration in frame, spine ribbed and decorated with King Frederick IV's numeral, speckled edges. Corners very slightly rubbed, abundant handwritten annotations. Frederick IV of Denmark (1671-1730) abolished serfdom in 1702. After two trips to Italy, he built the castles of Frederiksberg and Fredensborg in the Baroque style. The Museum Regium catalog was sent to many foreign princes to show the extent of the collection made by the kings of Denmark and to affirm the country's artistic reputation.
