Trace of bookplate The Benedictine abbey of Saint-Germain was founded in the mid-6th century by the Merovingian king Childebert I and named after the bishop of Paris who consecrated it. Jacques Bouillart (1669-1776) was a Benedictine monk of the Saint-Maur Congregation. In this history of the Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, he discusses the church's architecture, treasures and relics, as well as its burial grounds. Louis Rouillé, comte de Jouy, was successively Minister of the Navy (1749-1754) and Minister of Foreign Affairs (1754-1757).
