ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPH. Circa 1950-1955. 23.5 x 17.5 cm, framed. Vintage silver print of a woman, only her legs visible, on a sidewalk of a cobblestone street after rain, a streetlight reflected in a puddle. Photographer's stamp on verso. Typical of the atmosphere that pervades Nicolas Yantchevsky's shots of Paris by night. Nicolas Yantchevsky, a French photographer of Russian origin, produced some twenty photographic covers of detective novels by Georges Simenon and Auguste Lebreton in the 1950s. His nocturnal views of Paris are similar to those of Brassaï's Paris de Nuit, but have nothing to envy.
