△ Léga statuette, Democratic Republic of Congo Ivory with superb honey patina H. 13.2 cm The ghostly appearance of the figurine is reinforced by the extremely simplified treatment of its face. The nose divides the face from top to bottom, the mouth is indicated by a simple slit, and the round, sunken eyes may have once been inlaid. A squared-off headdress adorns the top of the head.
