△ Tellem sculpture, Mali Wood with crusty patina H. 41 cm In the Dogon language, tellem means "we found them" and refers to the people who occupied the Bandiagara cliff in Mali before the arrival of the Dogon populations in the 15th century. In a classical figuration, the ancestor is shown standing on one leg. The raised arms emerge from the paddle-shaped back. The volumes of the head, chest and abdomen are simply suggested.
