△ Rare female statuette (concubine) - Lot 50
△ Rare female statuette (concubine) Red terracotta Egypt Second Intermediate Period, 15th Dynasty, Hyksos Period, circa 1650-1550 BC. H. 15.5 cm The function of the small statuette representing a standing, naked woman corresponds to that of a concubine, evoking female fertility. The iconography is limited to the essentials: the head, with its rudimentary features and pointed face, rests on a thick neck. The arms and legs are strongly schematized. The vertical furrows on the forehead and the dotted pattern on the body probably reproduce tattoos. Flinders Petrie, University College, London 1927 W.C. - Hayes: The Scepter of Egypt Part II, Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1968 Comparanda Louvre E 27258
