This Hopi Kachina is also a figure of a Young Girl (Katsin'Mana). Female Kachinas accompany and assist male dancers during ceremonies. They carry baskets filled with corn or beans, and offer them to the dancers and audience during Kachina dances. They then usually stand in front of their male counterpart while he dances, before performing their own choreography.
Here, as in the previous lot, we find the figuration of a hairstyle characteristic of young Hopi women, as seen in Edward Curtis's photographic portraits taken in Arizona villages in 1922.
