- Collection Léo Scheer & Nathalie Rheims, acquired at the above sale
Identifiable by its long hair falling to the middle of its back and its black beard topped by a series of multicolored squares representing a rainbow, this figure represents the Angak'Tsina spirit, the Long-Haired Kachina.
The Hopis used to dance her in the hope of heavy rain.
During ritual processions, the long-haired dancers sang harmoniously to invoke the end of the dry season.
The Kachina presented here exudes a sense of power tinged with poetry.
