Circular box Ivory, brass nails, velvet, wood core India, circa 1900 H. 9.6 cm - D. 11.8 cm Weight : 401g The wooden core of this circular box is covered with cut ivory plates in the form of small pentagons and hexagons, secured with a brass nail. The en suite decoration on the lid forms a rosette around a central flower in relief. This inlaid technique of cut and studded plates is typical of India, and particularly of the Gujarat region, renowned for its mother-of-pearl-covered pieces using the same technique.
