Seljuk silver dish decorated with a Buraq - Lot 210
Seljuk silver dish decorated with a Buraq Silver Iran, 12th/13th century, Seljuk period D. 15 cm The silver dish features a central recessed medallion depicting a buraq with a leonine body and a woman's face on a background of foliate scrolls. The cavet is decorated with alternating concentric pointed circles that were probably intended to be decorated. Given the preciousness of the material, few pieces of medieval silverware have survived, most having been melted down for financial reasons, or to satisfy changing tastes.
