Luxurious belt buckle Partially gilded silver, pearls, emerald and green glass paste Ottoman Empire, late 18th century H. 16 cm - D. 29 cm Weight : 293g This luxurious belt buckle is decorated with friezes of fine pearls embroidered on a metallic thread textile, itself set in a partly gilded silver structure. Each element is richly decorated with vegetal motifs and embellished with emerald beads and green glass paste. Large, richly ornamented belts were often the most important part of a woman's dowry in the Ottoman Empire.
