Bird Katar - Lot 394
Bird Katar
Partly gold-damascened steel, red velvet scabbard on wooden core with metallic thread embroidery
India, 18th century
L. 45 cm
The handle of this Indian katar is decorated with a sowing of plant motifs on the uprights, whose two ends are adorned with a trio of cupules. The baluster-shaped central tenons frame two gilded birds facing each other in the round. A devanagari inscription is hidden on the inside of a vertical post. At the base of the blade, the central edge takes the form of a finial extended by a cypress tree. It comes with a red velvet scabbard with a gold damascened buckle decorated with chevrons.
