Shamshir Qadjar with acid-etched decoration Acid-etched steel with silver inlay Iran, 19th century 101.5 cm long with scabbard This large shamshir is typically Persian in shape, with a long, single-edged blade ending in a counter-edge. It comes in a steel scabbard. The hilt and quillons of the handle feature Timurid-inspired dragon heads. The decoration is almost entirely (except for the handle and top of the blade) covered with engraved cartouches alternating calligraphy, plant motifs, characters or animals. The upper part of the blade features a long inscription in cursive calligraphy. The hilt is silver damascened.
