Rare walnut center table with ebony and native wood alla certosina marquetry. Octagonal in shape, it is composed of a molded top and base joined by a foot forming a cupboard with a small door on one side; rich geometric decoration in stars, lozenges and Greek friezes. Central Italy, late 15th century H. 87.2 cm - L. 97 cm (a few accidents and restorations) Called a credenzino, this is a rare table from a Tuscan palace. A similar piece of furniture, though less richly inlaid with oriental-inspired ornamentation, is preserved at the Castello de Monselice near Venice. A large four-door credenza with a similar decoration of fine diamond marquetry and Greek friezes is also preserved in a private collection in Florence, given as Tuscan, from the second half of the 15th century.
