Large spearhead - Lot 7
Large spearhead Northern Europe, Late Bronze Age (c. 1150-930 B.C.) L. 59 cm - W. 8.5 cm Large spearhead Northern Europe, Late Bronze Age (circa 1150-930 BCE) L. 23 1/4 in - l. 3 3/8 in 838 CH Large, very slender bronze spearhead with fins and strong central rib. On each side of this rib is a row of eyelets (seven on one side, nine on the other) interrupted asymmetrically by a long rectangular slot. Hollow blade, molded in two parts joined at the central rib extending the socket. Several similar examples of these rare, highly valuable spears, whose shape derives from models from the British Isles, have been found in northern Europe, notably in the Utrecht region. Two almost identical examples were also found in the Seine in 1853, near the Pont de Bercy, probably deposited in the river as offerings. Today, both belong to the collections of the Musée Carnavalet in Paris (PR206 and PR207). Good condition, with patina in places, split at the socket.
