Weapons hammer - Lot 26
Weapons hammer France, mid-15th century (19th-century handle and long splints) L. 56 cm - W. 15 cm War hammer France, mid-15th century (haft and long langets are 19th century) L. 22 1/16 in - l. 5 7/8 in 792 CH War hammer with four-pointed diamond-shaped mail and corbin beak, decorated on the surface with a brass band. On each side of the thimble, a large square-headed rivet holds both the head to the handle and the square plates used to splint the top dagger, now cut off and reduced to a small molded protrusion. Only the upper parts of the two head splints, with their first square-headed nail, have survived. The four longer, narrower iron splints are 19th-century additions, as are the textile-covered nailed wooden handle and the ringed heel. Good condition, several small impacts on the iron, textile a little worn.
