Pertuisane d'apparat - Lot 50
Pertuisane d'apparat France, early 17th century L. of iron: 62 cm - L. 14cm - Total L. 255 cm Ceremonial partisan France, early 17th century Length of the blade: 24 1/2 in - W. 5 1/2 in - Total length: 100 in 156 CH Pertuisane d'apparat in iron with four lugs and a central rib, the lower part of which and the socket are adorned with splendid chased decoration in full gilding. On each side of the blade, the decoration is organized around two superimposed medallions surrounding antique-style riders (similar, but not completely identical between the two sides). The rest is filled with foliate scrolls, inhabited by human and animal figures, monsters and other grotesques, unique on each side. The knot and conical socket are decorated with foliage and acanthus leaves. The hook takes the form of a snake-dragon with upright head and coiled tail, whose body seems to pass through the socket. The iron is mounted on a 19th-century wooden shaft with nails, adorned with a silk and wire tassel. Good condition, with general wear to the gilding.
