Bourguignotte - Lot 52
Bourguignotte Germany (poss. Augsburg), circa 1575 H. 30- W. 20 cm Burgonet Germany (possibly Augsburg), c. 1575 H. 11 3/4 in - W. 7 7/8 in 241 CH Bourguignotte consisting of a high-crested helmet extended at the bottom by a neck guard and at the front by a short pointed visor. The cheekpieces, each with nine holes for hearing, are hinged. A corded pattern adorns the hemmed edges and the top of the crest, pierced by a hole for a later crest. The rivets of the internal trim (no longer present), whose heads were originally lined with brass sheeting, hold elaborate brass washers. The top of the stamp, the crest and the borders, are adorned with gilded acid-etched decoration, blackened in the hollows, whose elements stand out against a stippled background. While the secondary bands are decorated with foliage scrolls, the crest on both sides features a dragon in the center, framed by a juxtaposition of weapons and musical instruments. The penholder is missing. Good condition, some damage to the rear sinister stamp, other damage to one side of the crest, gilding worn in places. Translation at the end of the catalog
