Adjustable bridle bit in tin-plated iron, probably for a mul - Lot 60
Adjustable bridle bit in tin-plated iron, probably for a mule Germany, second half of the 16th century H. 34 cm - L. 14 cm Adjustable curb bit in tinned iron, probably for a mule Germany, second half 16th century H. 13 3/8 in - L. 5 1/2 in 916 CH Straight, two-part sliding curb bit that can be adjusted to three different lengths by moving a small dragon-head screw through three different holes. The sliding lower part of each branch is finely chased and ends at the top with an animal head. The large openwork finials hold a molded spacer bar, seconded by another lower one linking the reels to the rein rings. Straight pear-shaped mouthpiece with beaded rings and openwork salivary with pendants. It is doubled above by a straight ceiliane with two rollers and central shell, from which a rigid U-shaped curb chain swivels. The suspension eyes are adorned with plant motifs. The straight branches, the rigidity of the whole, and the U-shaped curb chain inherited from medieval bits are characteristic of bits designed for mules in the 16th century. Worn tinning in places, slight overall oxidation, a few accidents, notably to one of the mouthpiece pears and one of the finials.
