Entered service as a soldier in the 23rd regiment of line infantry until October 21, 1791, who joined the dromedary regiment on 9 frimaire an 8 (November 30, 1799) until 29 fructidor an 9 (September 16, 1801), foot gendarme, designated for retirement in December 1815. Campaigns in Italy, Corsica and Egypt. Chevalier de l'Ordre de la Légion d'Honneur June 1804. These sabers were given, by order of the Minister of War SCHÉRER, at the request of General VAUBOIS, to the soldiers of the 3rd company of the 19th ½ brigade de ligne, on April 1, 1798, following the events in Corsica and principally the siege of the fort of Corte, which lasted 45 days, from 12 nivôse to 26 pluviôse an VI, where these soldiers refused to capitulate, despite heavy losses. It is said that one hundred sabers were made. Some of these soldiers were among the "three hundred braves" of Nazareth a year later, which is why these sabers have often been attributed to this event in the Egyptian campaign: the battle of Nazareth on 18 Germinal An VII (April 8, 1799), where 150 men of the 19th ½ brigade, along with a hundred dragoons from the 14th regiment and several dozen carabinieri, particularly distinguished themselves. This troop was commanded by General JUNOT. (Note by Joseph DURIEUX, Carnets de la Sabretache, 1932).
