Gold saber by the Austrian forger Kolbe bearing the Emperor Napoleon's coat of arms, First Empire, circa 1810. Three shades of yellow, green and pink gold, with agate-polished relief parts on an amatized background. Single-branch guard in the "Blücher" style (German form with the upper part of the branch offset outwards), decorated with an interlacement between a smooth ribbon and a laurel branch, fine pearl molding framing. Mignon cruiser in the form of an oval medallion on each side, decorated with Athena's profile on the front and a helmeted warrior on the back. Each medallion is framed by a smooth ribbon of laurel branches and foliage. Straight quillon ending in a flower. One-piece handle depicting an eagle's head with oak and laurel branches encircling its neck. Curved damascus blade with gutters (two on the front and three on the other) decorated ¾ of the way through with oriental inscriptions in gold lettering and silver filets. L. 6 cm. Wooden scabbard sheathed in fine black shagreen with three gold fittings, all hallmarked. Mantle depicting a long acanthus stem around which a snake coils, framed by a series of flat, pearled moldings, outer molding trimmed with pinnate leaves, signed at the top below the passage of the rear auricle "Kolbe a Vienne"; the decoration is identical on each side. The front of the central trim features a medallion with jellyfish head and corollas of foliage and acanthus leaves; at the back, the medallion is decorated with a turning rosette and foliage and acanthus leaves; the framing moldings are identical to those on the chape. The end of the scabbard is decorated with a caduceus with acanthus leaf at the bottom, gold stinger and bouterolle, framing moldings identical to those on the chape. Two-part wooden carrying case covered with black lacquered paper, closing with nine silver-plated metal clasps. Both lids are lined with black silk, and the inner edges are trimmed with a small ribbon of braided silver passementerie. The upper lid is decorated at the saber mount with an "N" surmounted by the silver-cut and engraved iron crown (H. 3.7 cm - W. 3.2 cm). L. 94 cm. Marked 783/000 third title. Gross weight: Austria. First Empire, circa 1810. Saber in perfect condition. Case in good condition, some wear, lower lid with accident in the middle, some gluing. Hilt made of gold in three shades: yellow, green, and rose, with raised areas polished with agate stone and an amatis background. The guard is of the "Blücher" style (German form with the upper part of the guard projecting outward), decorated with an interlacing ribbon and a laurel branch, with a fine beaded molding framing it. The knuckle guard features oval medallions on each side, one with the profile of Athena on the front and the other with a helmeted warrior on the back, each surrounded by a smooth ribbon of laurel branches and scrolls. The quillon is straight, ending in a flower. The grip is monolithic, shaped as an eagle's head, with oak and laurel branches encircling its neck. The curved Damascus blade features two fuller grooves on the front face and three on the reverse, and is richly decorated on three-quarters of its length with inscriptions in an oriental style in gold letters and silver fillets. Blade W. 2 3/8 in Wooden scabbard covered with fine black shagreen, featuring three gold fittings, all hallmarked. The chape is designed as a long acanthus stem, around which a serpent coils, framed by a series of flat, beaded moldings, with the outer molding decorated with pennant leaves. It is signed at the top under the passage of the rear knuckle guard "Kolbe a Vienne"; the decoration is identical on both sides. The central fitting displays a medallion with the head of Medusa surrounded by corollas of foliage and acanthus leaves on the front; the back of the medallion is adorned with a rotating rosette and more foliage and acanthus leaves, with framing moldings identical to those of the chape. The bottom of the scabbard is decorated with a caduceus and acanthus leaves at the base, featuring a gold tip and mouthpiece, with framing moldings identical to those of the chape. The transport case consists of two parts, made of wood covered with black lacquered paper, fastened with nine silver-plated metal clasps. The two lids are lined with black silk, and the interior edges are trimmed with a small braided silver passementerie ribbon. The upper lid is decorated at the top near the hilt of the sabre with an "N" surmounted by a cut and engraved iron crown in silver (H. 1 7/16 in - l. 1 1/4 in).
