Very good condition, slight oxidation marbling. 366 CH The Tula arsenal or factory was established by Peter the Great in 1712. From the middle of the 18th century onwards, high quality firearms and bladed weapons were produced here. Weapons equipped with new systems and elaborate decorations were designed for the Russian court and aristocracy. With the exception of a few rare weapons, Tula's luxury production remained mainly in Russia. Spurs were a temporary accessory for horsemen, following their fashions. One rarely encounters precious specimens outside dynastic collections. A similar pair of knurled spurs, made by the Tula imperial factory in the late 18th or early 19th century, does not appear in Russian dynastic collections. It could therefore be considered of the utmost rarity and artistic and historical interest in former Imperial Russia.
