BOSSU. Nouveaux voyages aux Indes occidentales. Paris, Le Jay, 1768. 2 volumes in one in-12, green Russian half-leather, smooth spine decorated with filets and palettes, red parts, speckled edges (Binding of the first half of the 19th century). First edition, with 2 copper-engraved frontispieces and 2 plates after Saint-Aubin. (Chadenat, n°23; Sabin, n°6465.) A major work on the history of Louisiana in the mid-18th century, written by Captain Bossu, a French army officer who traveled the region from 1751 to 1762. Published in the form of letters addressed to the Marquis de L'Estrade, it contains highly interesting details of Indian customs: Illinois, Natchez, Arkansas, Sioux, etc. A pleasant, well-bound copy.
