HÉRÉ (Emmanuel). Plans et élévations de la Place royale de Nancy & des autres Édifices qui l'environnent, bâtie par les ordres du Roy de Pologne, duc de Lorraine. Dedicated to the King of France. Paris, François, s.d. [1753]. Large folio, marbled calf, triple gilt fillet, large gilt coat of arms in center, ornate spine, fleur-de-lis decoration in caissons (period binding). First edition, comprising an allegorical frontispiece, a title set in a frame drawn and engraved by Choffard, a dedication leaf and 13 double-page or fold-out plates, all engraved on copper. Third and final volume of Héré's large Recueil, representing plans, views and elevations of the majestic Place Stanislas in Nancy designed by the King of Poland's architect, with its surrounding buildings and magnificent wrought railings by locksmith Jean Lamour. A copy bearing the coat of arms of the Marshal Duc de Richelieu (OHR, pl. 407). Louis-François-Armand de Vignerot du Plessis (1696-1788) took the title of Duc de Richelieu on the death of his father in 1716. Marshal of France in 1748, he was appointed Governor of Guyenne in October 1755 and Commander General of the Mediterranean coast in January 1756. Without the engraved text leaf Réflexions sur les divers bâtiments et sur tous les ornemens qui les accompagnent. Rubbing on the edges or at the foot of a few plates (restored), including the title. Binding restored, notably at top and bottom of spine.
