JUGEMENT DE NUMA (Le), dramatic action performed at the La Scala theater in Milan on June 26, 1803, Year 2e. For the celebration of the annual national holiday ordered by decree of the Consulte d'État, May 2 of the same year. Milan, De l'Imprimerie et Fonderie du Génie typographique, s.d. In-4, beige faille, framed with embroidered foliage and lightly decorated with silver sequins, in the center attributes of Justice surrounded by a wreath of laurel and oak, all embroidered with gold thread (Contemporary soft binding).
First edition of this play glorifying Napoleon. It features Numa (Napoleon in the guise of the legendary king of Rome), Alexander, Caesar and Desaix (the general who won the battle of Marengo). Sung and danced, the play was performed on June 26, 1803 at the Scala theater.
Beautiful bilingual edition printed on heavy paper, followed by 3 odes by Savioli, Monti and Lamberti (16 pages in separate pagination), members of the Institut, to the glory of Marengo.
A present-day copy in a charming binding embroidered with the emblems of Justice.
A similar copy in embroidered blue faille, attributed to Cambacérès, then Minister of Justice, appeared in the catalog of the sale of Charles Van der Elst's library (I, 1985, n°113).
Glued to the front of the first leaf, a white paper label, from the period, bearing the handwritten mention (ex-libris or ex-dono) Md de Boccard née d'Affry, uniting two of the greatest names of the Fribourg aristocracy. Engraved bookplate F. P. Leclercq.
