LE SAGE (Alain-René). Le Diable boiteux. Preceded by a notice on Le Sage, by Jules Janin. Paris, Bourdin et Cie, 1840. Large in-8, blue half-maroquin with corners, ornate spine, untrimmed, cover and spine (V. Champs). First printing. Wood-engraved illustration after Tony Johannot, including a full-length portrait of Le Diable boiteux engraved by Brevière, printed on chine collé, and 140 vignettes in the text. A very fine copy, to which we have added the illustrated front cover of a delivery cover, bound at the end of the volume, and the prospectus (4 loose pages).
