LESUR, ROSENWALD and DESPREZ. Annuaire historique et univers - Lot 194
LESUR, ROSENWALD and DESPREZ. Annuaire historique et universel ou Histoire politique pour 1840 [et pour 1842]. Paris, Thoisnier Desplaces, 1841-1843. Together 2 volumes in-8, red half-maroquin, red paper boards, gilt numeral in center, smooth spine decorated, chipped (Period binding).
Copies with the figure of Marie-Louise (1791-1847), Duchess of Parma.
The eldest daughter of Francis of Austria and great-niece of the former Queen Marie-Antoinette, Marie-Louise of Austria (1791-1847) married Napoleon Bonaparte in 1810 and was Empress of the French until 1814. Their union produced Napoleon II, known as l'Aiglon, King of Rome and Duke of Reichstadt. After the Hundred Days and the fall of the Emperor, the Congress of Vienna granted her the Duchy of Parma, where she settled permanently in March 1816.
The Chronique section of the 1840 volume includes the account of the Arrival of the Belle-Poule frigate bringing back the remains of Emperor Napoleon (pp. 304-309), as well as that of the Funeral Honors given to the mortal remains of Emperor Napoleon (pp. 309-314), articles that the former Empress of the French undoubtedly did not fail to read.
Some foxing.
