MUSIC. - PUIG I CAPDEVILA (Bernat Calvo). Misa a tres coros, Ejecutada por primera vez en el templo de Nuestra Senora de las Mercedes, Parroquia de S. Miguel Arcangel, en la manana del dia 18 de junio con motivo de celebrarse en ella el fausto y providencial acontecimiento de haber alcanzado nuestro venerado y amado Sumo Pontifice reiante Pio Nono, el vigesimo quinto ano de su pontificado. Barcelona, June 20, 1871. Manuscript in-4 (300 x 215 mm), eggplant chagrin, gilt roulette and cold scroll, framed with 4 large spandrels in the form of cold foliage scrolls, gilt capitals in the center of the first cover A. S. S. PIO IX, cabochons on the boards, ornate spine, turquoise blue moiré lining and endpapers, gilt edges (period binding). Manuscript score of a mass for three choirs and orchestra specially composed for the 25th anniversary of the pontificate of Pius IX (1792-1878) by Bernat Calvo Puig i Capdevila in the church of Our Lady of Mercy in Barcelona on June 20, 1871. Bernat Calvo Puig i Capdevila, born in Vic in 1819 and died in Barcelona in 1880, was musical director of the Barcelona Philharmonic Society, and organist at Vic Cathedral and Santa Maria del Mar Church in Barcelona. He was also choirmaster of the church of Notre-Dame de la Merci in Barcelona, whose Virgin, who became patron saint of the city in 1687, was officially enthroned as such in 1868 by Pope Pius IX. Slight rubbing to binding, some cabochons missing.
