The undecorated blade attachments incorporate splints that are part of a chased quillon block, featuring a pair of yali resting on the heads and forelegs of elephants, a feature found on a group of royal swords and daggers Vijayanagaran, see Elgood, 2004, p.109-126. The large basket hilt has finely cut and perforated edges depicting birds (another animal frequently represented in Vijayanagar arms), the branch featuring a figure under a cusp-shaped arch, supposed to be Vishnu standing on a double-headed bird known as a gandabherunda (often used by royalty, see Elgood, 2004, p.176).
