A long inscription runs along the back of the blade. The unpolished tang is pierced by two holes and an unidentified diamond-shaped mark. The long inscription running down the blade is a report attributed to the Prophet Muhammad, the end of which is worn and not fully deciphered, followed by a quotation from the Qur'an, invocations to Muhammad and 'Ali, and another undeciphered text. The Prophet, may God Most High bless him and grant him peace, said, "Indeed, al-Walid is a sword among the swords of God which He (i.e. God) has poured out on the infidels." The Messenger ... and Prophet ... spoke the truth and ... "A help from God and a swift victory. So bring the good news to the believers." (Qur'an 61:13, in part) O Muhammad! And O 'Ali! Dhu'l-Faqar(?) ... In the cartouche closest to the guard, a quotation from the Qur'an: "Do not be arrogant towards me, but come to me in submission (to the true religion)"(Qur'an 27:31). In the lobed cartouche, the basmala (In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful). In the rectangular cartouche above the lobed cartouche, in reserve on a gold background: ya malik al-mulk O Possessor of sovereignty! Above the small rectangular cartouche, a signature: amal al-haji murad khush-qadam Work of al-Haji Murad Khush-Qadam (el-Haci Murad Ho?-kadem)". Two Topkapi swords bear the name of their author, Haci Murad Ho?-kadem (1/10467, 1/490). Another sword in the Topkapi (1/4824), a sword in the Museum of Islamic Art in Cairo (no. 3647) and a sword in the Museum für Deutsche Geschichte in Berlin are signed Haci Murad b. Ho?-kadem (see Ünsal Yücel, " Türk K?l?ç Ustalar?", Türk Etnografya Dergisi, 7-8 (1964-1965) p.85).
