Magnificent polished steel chamfer - Lot 460
Magnificent polished steel chamfer Ottoman Empire, 16th century H. 47 cm A fine chamfron of polished steel Ottoman empire, 16th century H. 181/2 in 559 CH The forehead is square with a T-shaped molded crest that continues with a median crest along the center line to the bottom. The cheeks of this model are particularly curved, giving it an elegant, pleasing shape. A curved steel plate above the T-molding is missing (see David Collection 3/1979 for a complete example). The edges are carefully pierced with a series of perforations for attaching liners, cheek pieces or other elements of the horse's defensive armor. The T-shaped ridge places this chamfer in a small group, including one mentioned in Copenhagen, another in the Met Museum (21.102.4) and yet another in Askeri Müzesi, Istanbul. The elegant shape and good condition of this specimen make it a fine addition to this group.
