Wooden mwana hiti fertility doll with dark patina, wearing a glass bead necklace.
Stylized figure with truncated cone-shaped bust, wide neck resting on flat shoulders and flattened dome-shaped head topped by a crested headdress. Slight reliefs create the chest and umbilicus.
These "wooden children" were given to young girls at the time of their initiation, so that they could care for them like real infants and prepare for their future role as mothers.
