PARADIN (Guillaume). Chronique de Savoye. Genève, Jehan de T - Lot 162

PARADIN (Guillaume). Chronique de Savoye. Genève, Jehan de Tournes, 1602. In-folio, contemporary soft vellum. Cartier, n°723. Third and most complete edition, with over 20 chapters more than the first, also published by Jehan de Tournes in 1552. The continuation of the text up to 1601 is due to Jehan de Tournes himself, as is the revision of Paradin's text. This chronicle contains a description of Valais and Pays de Vaud, numerous episodes from the history of Geneva and one of the first descriptions of the Alps and its prodigious ice. Wood-engraved title in a handsome scrolled frame. Two genealogical tables, here mounted on double pages, and numerous woodcut coats of arms in the text. Numerous brown spots due to poor paper quality, one marginal wet spot.
