SANTEUL (Jean-Baptiste). Hymni sacri et novi. Paris, Denis T - Lot 178
SANTEUL (Jean-Baptiste). Hymni sacri et novi. Paris, Denis Thierry, 1689. In-16, red morocco, triple gilt fillet framing the covers, ornate ribbed spine, interior gilt roulette, gilt edges (period binding). Second edition, dedicated to Cardinal de Bouillon, Abbot of Cluny, of hymns by Jean-Baptiste Santeul (1630-1697), the famous Latin poet and canon of Saint-Victor Abbey. These hymns were intended primarily for the Diocese of Paris and the Order of Cluny. The collection ends with verses in honor of B. Thomas de Saint-Victor and an elegy by Claude Santeul, the author's brother. The work ends with twelve pages of music. A very fine copy, in contemporary red morocco, very well preserved despite two small wormholes in a spine and in the last box, and a small blow to the second plate.
