GAME. - Contes en action. Paris, Alphonse Giroux et Cie, s.d. [ca. 1835]. Cardboard box (15.2 x 21.7 x 3.5 cm), colored lithograph on lid (a young woman has arranged the little theater on a table and shows the show to children seated around it), gilded and embossed frame; the box contains a small oblong-format paperback booklet (32 pages), 6 cut-out and pedestal characters and 16 scenery elements, all lithographed and colored, and a grooved wooden base. A very handsome Romantic-era game distributed by Alphonse Giroux, a manufacturer who produced and marketed very luxurious toys, games and accessories in the first half of the 19th century. The booklet contains 4 stories (Le mérite récompensé, Jules et Victor, Le nègre reconnaissant, and Michel ou le Savoyard généreux) which the child stages in the form of a small theater with the scenery and characters at his disposal. One set element may be missing, as there are 4 stories and only 3 backdrops in the box. Very rare condition.
