PUZZLE. - Geographical atlas in 8 puzzles. S.l.n.d. [circa 1850-1860]. Varnished wooden box (32.5 x 41.5 x 7.5 cm), gilded MG on lid, lock (without key); 8 wooden puzzles (28 x 36 cm).
Attractive set of 8 geographical puzzles: world map in two hemispheres, France in 89 departments, Europe, Africa, Asia, North America, South America and Russia.
The maps are laminated on wood and cut out according to geographical boundaries. Seven of them are taken from Barbier du Bocage's Atlas géographique.
The box bears the Maison Alphonse Giroux label.
One piece (the peninsula of Russian America, i.e. Alaska) of the North America puzzle is missing. Crack inside lid and box.
