VILLE D'AVRAY (Arthur de). Journey to the Moon before 1900. - Lot 85
VILLE D'AVRAY (Arthur de). Journey to the Moon before 1900. Paris, Librairie Furne, Jouvet & Cie, s.d. Large oblong in-8, red percaline, decorated in black, gold and silver on the front cover (publisher's boards). First edition, with color title and 50 chromolithograph plates. A comic reverie in which Baboulifiche and his servant Papavoine crash their aircraft on the Moon, encounter giant mussels and strange creatures, before ending up on Saturn... The book is reminiscent of Cyrano de Bergerac, Jules Verne and Georges Méliès. A very rare album, in its attractive publisher's cartonnage decorated by Auguste Souze. Inner hinges slightly cracked, small split at one spine.
