ARAMON (?). - PLANTAVIT DE LA PAUSE (Jean). Chronologia prae - Lot 110
ARAMON (?). - PLANTAVIT DE LA PAUSE (Jean). Chronologia praesulum Lodovensium. Aramontii, Sumptibus Authoris, in usum Cleri Lodovensis, 1634. In-4, vellum, title in ink on spine (contemporary binding).
First edition of this history of the bishops of Lodève from 305 to 1625, dedicated to Cardinal de Richelieu.
It features a copper-engraved title-frontispiece.
The printed title page, which does not appear in all copies, mentions the small Languedoc town of Aramon (near Avignon and Nîmes) as the place of printing.
Desbarreaux-Bernard, in Établissement de l'imprimerie dans la province de Languedoc (1875), assumed that the work was printed in this small town, where the author, bishop of Lodève, had taken refuge after the repression of the Duke of Montmorency's revolt, in which he had been compromised: in his opinion, the edition was printed by the Toulouse printer Arnaud Colomiez, who travelled there with his equipment. Other bibliographers mention the town of Lodève as the place of printing, notably Deschamps (col. 89-90 and 730) and Desgraves, Lodève, BBA, p. 65, or the city of Avignon (cf. Labande, "Un problème d'histoire typographique. L'imprimeur de la Chronologia praesulum Lodovensium publiée à Aramaon en 1634" in Mémoires de l'Académie de Vaucluse, 1898, t. XVII).
Light foxing. Patinated vellum.
