MIRABILIS LIBER qui prophetias revelationesque necnon res mi - Lot 151
MIRABILIS LIBER qui prophetias revelationesque necnon res mirandas praeteritas presentes et futuras aperte demonstrat. Paris, Enguilbert de Marnef, s.d. [at colophon]: Printed in Paris, September 4, 1523. 2 parts in a gothic in-4 volume, half green morocco, ornate smooth spine, red title page, red speckled edges (Late 18th century binding).
Rare edition of this compilation of divinatory texts, better known as Mirabilis liber (Bechtel, M-356).
The work is divided into two parts, the first of which, in Latin, contains various texts including Johannes Lichtenberger's Pronosticatio, the Vaticinia, attributed to pseudo-Joachim de Flore, a prophecy concerning the second Charlemagne, and prophetic fragments by authors such as Catherine of Siena and Savonarola. The second part, strictly in French, is said by bibliographers to herald the French Revolution of 1789 (Guy Bechtel).
Printed in Gothic type, Marnef typographical mark.
Handwritten ex-libris on the title of the Célestins de Sainte-Croix convent.
A fine copy in antique morocco, once owned by Abbé Rigaux, curé d'Argœuves (Somme), a collector of works on Nostradamus.
