VIGENÈRE (Blaise de). Traicté du feu et du sel. Excellent an - Lot 166
VIGENÈRE (Blaise de). Traicté du feu et du sel. Excellent and rare opuscule. Dernière édition revueuë & corrigée. Rouen, Jacques Caillové, 1642. In-4, contemporary soft vellum. A sought-after treatise, a curious blend of alchemy, kabbalah and mysticism, in which we find the way to make gold according to Caillet. The author, a scholar and alchemist born in 1522 in Saint-Pourçain (Bourbonnais), relates numerous experiments and comments skilfully on the texts of ancient philosophers, in particular the Zohar of the Kabbalah. (Caillet, no. 11161, for the 1618 edition; Dorbon, no. 5133). Handwritten bookplate on title. Mottling throughout, with wine-red halos. Restorations to binding.
