Cologne, Pierre Gaillard, 1701. 2 volumes in-12, red morocco, triple gilt fillet, ornate spine, interior roulette, blue moire lining and endpapers, gilt edges (period binding). First edition of Romain de Hooghe's illustration, comprising a frontispiece and 100 mid-page vignettes: in this copy, the vignettes are printed outside the text. A famous collection of piquant short stories on the pleasures and dangers of lovemaking (cf. Dictionnaire des œuvres érotiques, pp. 87-88). A morocco copy from the library of Marquis François-César Le Tellier de Courtanvaux (1718-1781), academician, astronomer and great lover of travel books (repeated wet stamp). Some light foxing. Slight rubbing to binding (edges and headpieces), spine slightly lightened.
