MANUSCRIT. - COLLECTAIRE] or [PONTIFICAL? - Lot 226
MANUSCRIT. - COLLECTAIRE] or [PONTIFICAL? Folio from a Carolingian collectary (or pontifical?) Northern France (?), 9th century or early 10th century ? Manuscript leaflet on parchment, written on both sides, 26 lines per page, green and red painted initials, headings in uncial script (red ink) and text in caroline minuscule (brown ink). A few holes in the parchment, parchment a little creased, two traces of binding on verso in the upper margin. Dimensions: 215 x 285 mm Text This leaflet contains five benedictions (perhaps part of a "Benedictionary" preceding a Pontifical?), for Advent and the Common of Saints, recto : rubrics, recto, B[ENEDICTIO] DE ADVENTU DOMINI; B[ENEDICTIO] ALIA DE ADVENTU DOMINI; B[ENEDICTIO] IN NAT[A]L[IS] UNIUS AP[OS]T[O]LI; verso B[ENEDICTIO] IN NAT[A]L[IS] UNIUS MARTYRIS; B[ENEDICTIO] IN NAT[A]L[IS] PLURIMORUM MART[YRUM]. Liturgical manuscripts are indexed as "Bénédictionnaire-Collectaire-Pontifical" (or Collectarium-Pontificalis). What is clear is that the capituli are not included. Another fragment of this manuscript is known to have come onto the French market in 2024. The composition, decoration and handwriting of this leaf can be compared with certain manuscripts copied in northern France in the 9th and 10th centuries (we're thinking of the manuscripts produced at Corbie (Somme) and Saint-Amand-les-Eaux (Nord)), and further research will certainly enable us to identify the original manuscript or at least other related leaves.
